Jackie Lamigo, O.D.

Dr. Lamigo grew up in Anchorage as a patient of Dr. Nyboer, who sparked her interest in the eye care field. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences and Chemistry at San Jose State University in California. Dr. Lamigo then obtained her doctorate at Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry, where she was awarded the Founding Dean Scholarship.

Her clinical rotations were completed in several facilities around the nation including a cataract surgery center in Florida, a Veterans hospital in New Jersey, a pediatric strabismus amblyopia clinic in Colorado, and a Marine Corp-Naval Hospital in California.

Dr. Lamigo is passionate about bringing eye care to populations in need, both domestically and abroad. She has been involved with several humanitarian outreach projects in various parts of the world, including Peru and El Salvador. As a health advocate, she enjoys educating others about eye care and ocular nutrition.

She is qualified to prescribe therapeutic agents for treatment of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and dry eyes. She is certified to use the Cynosure IPL laser, iLUX, and the Ellex YAG/SLT laser. Dr. Lamigo is a member of the American Optometric Association.

Christie Stemmle, O.D.

Dr. Christie has been with Southside Eyecare for over 20 years; moving to Alaska after selling her practice in San Diego, Calif.

Growing up in Southern California, she worked in the family business of making hard and gas permeable contact lenses; sparking the interest in specialty contact lens designs.

Christie graduated from UC San Diego and received her doctorate from Southern California College of Optometry. She spent a year teaching in the contact lens clinic at grad school and working as a contact lens fitting consultant for a large soft contact lens manufacturer; during which time she wrote a paper on gas perm contact lens flexure on corneas with increasingly high amounts of astigmatism. Before moving away from teaching, she received the Allergan Contact Lens Research Award for outstanding contact lens research and expertise in the fitting of contact lenses.

Relocating to Alaska with her children was a huge change from Southern California! Dr. Christie started work in Alaska at the VA in Anchorage before joining Dr. Jan Nyboer’s ophthalmology practice.

She has served as President and Vice President of the Alaskan Optometric Association, belongs to the Scleral Lens Society, and attends meetings nationally and internationally to further her education and specialty lens fitting skills.

Dr. Christie enjoys challenging contact lens fits and receives referrals from all over the state to help patients who have not been able to achieve good vision with regular contacts. Many of these patients have had corneal transplants, keratoconus, or extreme dry eye problems.

She does “medically necessary” lens fits for patients with extremely irregular eye shapes or prescriptions. She treats eye infections, provides care for eyes with diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration, prepares patients for LASIK, cataract surgery, and of course provides routine eyecare. She is certified to use the Cynosure IPL laser, iLUX, and the Ellex YAG/SLT laser. Dr. Christie Stemmle welcomes new patients and their families to our practice.
